Pyongyang University of Science and Technology (PUST) was formally opened in the DPRK in 2010. PUST has three schools in operation: School of Electrical Engineering, School of International Finance and Management and School of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
In 2014, the DPRK government formally asked PUST to develop the School of Medicine as part of the PUST Division of Medical Sciences. The Division of Medical Sciences (DMS) will have 5 schools: School of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Public Health and Nursing.
The School of Medicine’s main mandate is to train DPRK medical students to become English proficient healthcare providers in the context of Western medicine. In doing so, our long term goal for the School of Medicine is to become an agent for progressive change in the DPRK healthcare system.
